The introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in 2013 was a watershed moment for Australians with a disability.
But as the NDIS Review Panel recently highlighted, people with disability in regional Australia still face significant challenges when it comes to infrastructure that meets their needs, access to health professionals, and well thought out programs which build individuals’ capacity and independence.
There are other challenges, too, which include the cost of transport, the choice of services in thin markets and the choice of support (where passive, rather than active, support is the norm).
In the Echuca-Moama region, 1 in 5 people have a disability, but Build a Better Future believes that shouldn’t stop people with a disability from working, studying, and living their best lives.
The Build a Better Future coalition is campaigning for critical infrastructure and capacity building programs for people with disability in the Echuca-Moama region.
We see that future as including those without a disability and are looking to develop the old Echuca Special School Site as a precinct that not just people with disability, but the whole community can utilise and enjoy.
Join us to help build a better future for people with disability.
